South Cobb's own Doug LaVigne has returned from his two month scientific research trip on the Bering Sea. Mr. LaVigne applied for the Teacher at Sea program last year and after interviews with the top candidates he was selected to join the 31 member science party on Expedition 323 of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP).
The JOIDES Resolution (or JR) scientific drilling vessel sampled oceanic crust from 7 locations in the Bering Sea. The materials collected will be studied in a variety of ways in the attempt to learn about changes in the Earth's climate. Mr. LaVigne will be presenting some of his experiences to area teachers at the county inservice day on October 21st.
