A love of learning has made me a life long learner. Having completed MA Education from Central Michigan University, I consider myself not even half way in my quest for knowledge.
My favorite subjects are world languages, art, ancient history, and educational strategies / theory ... probably because they are all windows into the cultures of all people.
A believer that encouragement and success multiply with use, I teach for success and am rarely disappointed.
I teach high school and college Latin because it is an important key for the in-depth understanding (across curriculum) that is necessary to a successful college experience. The culture, grammar, history, vocabulary, and general knowledge of the ancient Romans are mirrored throughout academia. Research has proven a direct correlation between learning the Latin Language and Culture with improved SAT scores and GPA.
On Saturdays, I teach ESOL endorsement classes to teachers because I believe every student has the ability to learn and the right to be provided learning that is comprehensible. Knowing of the generous nature of teachers and their intense desire to assist their students be successful, I am privileged to have an opportunity to provide instruction on Saturdays that culminates in an add on endorsement for ESOL that promotes strategies proven successful with main stream and ESOL students.
RECIPES FOR TEACHING
win them with love, care, kindness and humor ... it hard (even for students ) to be disrespectful / antagonistic to someone you like ...
use referrals sparingly ... every time you write one you admit they are controlling the situation ... and you are not able to affect their behavior
Hobbies .... classes (as teacher or student) ... travel ... travel... travel...
